Data collected from this confidential survey will be used for completion of the Social Intensity Syndrome Study in Psychology at San Francisco State University. SIS is a new phenomenon that is being studied within the military population that addresses their relationship differences between the military personnel and their unit, military friends, family and significant others. You have been invited to participate because you are/were a member of the military and we are interested in your thoughts about certain issues. The information gathered here seeks to understand your experience of being in the military. You must have served in the military and currently reside in the United States in order to participate. There are no direct benefits to you for participating in this survey.
Personal questions about demographics, sex, drugs, relationships and personal views, and personal and family related issues will be asked. This survey is anonymous; however, some identifying information will be asked (i.e., military rank, length of enlistment, assigned unit, deployment zones and name of the war/combat/conflict zone). All personal information provided for this research is confidential and will not be used for or included in any medical history. Participants may also feel a loss of privacy in answering the questions; however, as stated above, the participant has the choice to opt out of any question or exit the survey at any time. Additionally, in order to minimize the risk and to protect the participants identity, all surveys will be completely confidential and kept accessible only to the primary researcher. No information will be released to medical personnel, or be used for medical records. All data collected from the online survey will be kept on one computer. The computer and the actual file will be password protected, and only the primary researcher will know the password.
There is a risk that you might feel some discomfort in answering these questions, but you may stop participating at any time or you may refuse to answer any question in the survey. If answering these questions are upsetting to you, make you feel deeply emotionally distressed, or make you concerned with your well-being, please contact someone on the mental health referral list provided after clicking next.
