1. Product description

The product is a system that enables the users to grow plants via hydro-/aeroponics (Hydroponics is growing plants in water, without soil - Aeroponics is to grow plants in air and without soil). There are two versions, one for indoor use and one for outdoor use. They are both made up of the same elements. Several elements can be put together, to form modules of about 60x60x220cm, 120x60x220cm, 180x60x220cm, etc., anything in size from a small closet to larger greenhouse like structures. Shelves are adjustable in height, so growing in more than one level is possible, in case of small plants. Besides what has already been mentioned, the system contains the following: pumps, valves, sprayers, sensors, heating element, ventilation, tanks for liquids, insulation, UV lights, plant holders and control interface. The system is fully integrated and automated, so once parameters have been set, all that is needed is to supply the system with water and fertilizers, sow and harvest.

Some pros and cons of hydro-/aeroponics compared to soil cultivation:

• Uses less water – in some case as little as 1/30 the amount of water
• Nutrient depletion is not an issue, so crop rotation is not necessary
• Growth is not dependent on seasons
• More intense flavor
• There is little to no risk of weeds or parasites in controlled systems (fewer to no pesticides and herbicides are needed)
• Plants can be placed about 4 times closer
• Can be used in places where soil cultivation is not possible

• High cost (initial capital cost, running costs, etc.)
• Requires more maintenance and supervision
