ABOUT THIS RESEARCH
This survey explores how industrial organizations are adopting AI throughout product development—from concept and design through Manufacturing Bill of Materials (MBOM) creation. We focus on engineering and product development activities, excluding manufacturing execution, IoT operations, and post-production support.
WHAT WE MEAN BY "AI"
Throughout this survey, "AI" includes:
• AI assistants and copilots (e.g., embedded help, contextual guidance, chat interfaces)
• Generative AI (e.g., content creation, code generation, image synthesis)
• Machine learning (e.g., predictive analytics, recommendations, optimization)
• Autonomous AI agents (e.g., agentic workflows, multi-step task automation)
